Summary:  Tomar-Re, Green Lantern of Sector 2813, was friend and comrade in arms to Hal Jordan. The two were best friends in the Corps and often warned each other of impending threats to each other's nearby sectors. They also frequently called on each other for help, when they were predisposed with another crisis. Green Lanterns may be powerful, but they can't be in two places at once.

Tomar-Re's important roles have also included being the prosecution in the case against Sinestro, the renegade Green Lantern, attempting the prevent the explosion of Kypton (the home of Kal-El a.k.a. Superman a.k.a. Clark Kent), guarding Superman for his passage to Earth in his rocket ship after Krypton exploded, mentor to Arisia, and becoming a member of the Green Lantern Corps Honor Guard.

Tomar died in battle against the Weaponer and the many enemies of the Guardians. Upon his death, his ring floated off his finger and went to John Stewart. Stewart's went to Hal (it was originally Hal's).  Tomar saw things set right before he died, as always, a hero.
