Summary: Abin Sur is the famous red-skinned alien that fell from the sky and changed the life of the fearless Hal Jordan forever.  After a final battle with the villain known as Legion, Abin Sur was on the brink of death and crash landed on Earth. No soon after, Hal Jordan was plucked from his flight simulator and donned the ring for the first time.  But before that, he had many adventures. I'll tell what I know.

Once, Abin Sur went to an alien planet, Ysmault, to rescue an Ungaran ship that had crash landed there. In doing so, he broke the Guardians orders to not visit the planet under quarantine. The planet was quarantined for good reason... Soon after landing, Abin Sur was possessed while sleeping by a being called  Balzara because his ring was not charged. He commanded Abin to free some of his captive friends and took Abin to a spaceship. Thinking he had him trapped, the alien, released his hold on Abin. The Green Lantern then recharged his ring and captured and imprisoned the foe.

Abin Sur later died at the hands of Legion, but his legacy lived on.  Later, Green Lantern Kyle Rayner, would face Abin's son, Amon Sur: the leader of the Black Circle Crime Syndicate.  Amon had grown up hating his father for abandoning them.  This led him to build a criminal empire with the sole purpose of gaining power and destroying the Green Lanterns.  With the help of the Qwardians, Amon nearly did so as he made a machine that could create and shoot black holes.  The Guardians (actually taking an active role for once) and Kyle stopped these occurrences and eventually, the grown female Guardian, Lianna, killed Amon Sur.

This seems to be the end of the Sur family legacy...
